Did You Know?

This year marks the 80th birthday of Smokey the Bear.

However, did you know the current version of Smokey the Bear was created by a Kansas artist?

Rudolph A. Wendelin was from the Northwest part of the state. After employment with the U.S. Forestry Service, he was assigned the task of being the ‘caretaker’ for the image of Smokey the Bear. He modified the image to make it more appealing to the society.
